In-School Sales Representative - Greenbelt

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit cooperative that strives to be the premier financial services provider for the education community. Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is the 12th largest credit union in Maryland, managing assets of over $365 million while serving the Board of Education, students and their immediate families in Prince George’s County, Charles County, Calvert County, St. Mary’s County and Talbot County, Maryland.
We are currently seeking experienced, zealous School Sales Representatives for our new In-School Sales department located in Greenbelt, MD.  This position requires travel throughout Prince Georges and Charles County.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for increasing Educational Systems FCU’s visibility within the assigned branch markets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools and school associations to achieve membership growth from the school/organization through regular school visits and other communications, by providing seminars to their staff, students and family members, and organizing events that provide opportunities for new membership recruitment.
  • Work with our branches, schools and school associations to generate new members.
  • Participate in and/or join professional organizations to develop contacts and working relationships.
  • Provide information on all Credit Union services and effectively cross-sell the products and services that meet the member’s specific needs.
  • Conduct seminars to school and/or school association, their staff, students and family members, and organize events that provide opportunities for new membership recruitment.
  • Mine prospects to develop relationships that lead to target relationships for the Credit Union.
  • Actively participate with the Chambers of Commerce and other organizations that lead to growth opportunities and community awareness. 
  • Work closely with the Branch Managers and their staff to develop membership opportunities around each branch.
  • Help set up and run the in-school Financial Education Centers at designated locations as determined by the Credit Union.  
  • Determine the products and services that best meet members needs
  • Take consumer loan and credit card applications and disburse according to established Credit Union guidelines.

Skills and Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Associate degree or Bachelors in Marketing or related area preferred.  Minimum of two (2) years financial experience required. Two (2) years business development/sales required.  Must have experience selling and cross-selling products or services preferably in an outside setting. Must be able to meet and/or exceed sales goals. Bilingual preferred. Must be committed to participating in community outreach and business development. Proficiency in public speaking required. Must be creative, friendly, courteous, professional and have the ability to work and communicate effectively with people of all ages.  Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.  For traveling to off-site locations, must have their own car, a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Teller/Member Service Representative - Bowie

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is seeking a candidate for a Teller/Member Service Representative position for its branch in Bowie, MD.  Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, the chosen applicant will be responsible for providing a variety of sales and service functions such as providing information on all Credit Union services in person, by phone, email or mail, effectively cross-selling the products and services that meet the member’s specific needs and processing deposits and withdrawals, loan and VISA payments, and account inquiries.  The chosen applicant will also be responsible for processing requests/transactions as appropriate and entering transactions into the Credit Union computer based system. 

Some Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine member transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, cash advances, loan payments, transfers and cashing checks.
  • Accurately maintains and balances cash drawer and conducts all transactions in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Inspects all checks, money orders, Traveler’s Checks, etc. for proper endorsement and negotiability.
  • Supports Head Teller in settling office, encoding and scanning checks, and replenishing ATM, Cash Dispense and Coin Machines.
  • Helps process mail, overnight deposits and pending transactions.
  • Provides members with account status, including current balances as well as the necessary forms to transact business at the Credit Union.
  • Assists members in signing up for and using On-Line banking and On-Line Bill Payer and processes stop payments on share draft accounts.
  • Prepares form letters to members concerning inquiries on transactions directly affecting their accounts.
  • Interacts professionally and cordially with members to determine member’s financial needs and cross-sells credit union products and services to meet those needs.  Personalizes each transaction (in person and over the phone) through knowledge about the member, making eye contact, a pleasant greeting and thanking the member by name.
  • Provides members with accurate and up to date information regarding membership eligibility, member’s accounts, credit union procedures, rate, products and services etc.
  • Participates in and support Credit Union promotions.

Position requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). One (1) year cash handling and customer service experience in a financial institution or retail organization required.  Must have experience selling and cross-selling products or services or sales training. Ability to meet and/or exceed sales goals. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.  Ability to work with highly confidential information and perform routine mathematical calculations. Ability to function in a financial institution branch environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: PC, 10 key calculator, fax, copier, telephone, etc.  Ability to lift a minimum of 15 lbs.

Starting salary commensurate with experience.

Initial office hours:
Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m.  – 1:30 p.m.

Outbound Sales & Services Call Center Representative - Greenbelt

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union has a great career opportunity for an experienced Outbound Sales and Services Call Center Representative, to work in our Greenbelt, Maryland office.  The chosen candidate would provide a variety of sales and service functions such as information on all Credit Union services by phone, email, fax  or mail and effectively cross-sell the products and services that meet the member’s specific needs.  Respond to questions and/or provide information, processes requests/transactions as appropriate and assist member and potential members in understanding and utilizing the Credit Union’s products and services.

Some Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contact members and potential members through but not limited to phone calls, email, mailings, and fax to promote the benefits of membership as well as various products and services offered at the Credit Union. 
  • Generate qualified prospects and sales in order to build membership and utilization of Credit Union products and services.
  • Develop and deliver sales presentations over the phone in a professional and effective manner by maintaining up-to-date awareness of Credit Union products and services, industry trends and regulations.
  • Sell Credit Union products and services to new and existing members by asking the right questions to determine what products and services best meet their needs.  Complete the necessary paperwork, mails to member, and follows up to make sure documents are received and that the member does not have any additional questions or concerns.
  • Match programs to member requirements and provides general and specific service-related information by phone and/or in writing to potential and existing members concerning Credit Union’s products, services and policies.  Provides routine information including eligibility for membership, types of Credit Union accounts, interest rates, current dividend rates, branch locations, office hours and telephone numbers.
  • Telephone prospects to identify appropriate contacts, qualifies and drives leads through the sales pipeline.  May include cold calling and appointment setting for Branches and Member Service Centers. 
  • Assist members with balancing their account, processes member requests for transfers of shares, share withdrawals by check, line of credit advances, and wire transfers, processes stop payments, helps complete relevant forms such as direct deposit and payroll deduction, and balances teller transactions.
  • Research and respond to member’s requests, problems and complaints via phone or written request.  Does not direct members to another department for specific information unless absolutely necessary.
  • Prepare form letters to members concerning inquiries on transactions directly affecting their accounts.
  • Assist members in signing up for and using On-Line banking and On-Line Bill Payer.  Processes any pending transactions.
  • Provide credit references to credit bureaus, financial institutions and verifies funds on member accounts via phone.
  • Process requests for photocopies of share drafts, monthly statements etc.  Orders and blocks plastic cards.
  • Follow established policies and procedures to safeguard the member services computer system.
  • Keep current on policies, procedures and changes pertaining to the member services department by using the Intranet/Internet and other training and information tools available.  Keeps abreast of changes in general policies and procedures, products and rates.
  • Adhere to safety and security programs designed to minimize loss relating to fraud and robbery.
  • Contribute to the effective Credit Union security by monitoring all call center functions insuring they are secure at all times.

Position requirement:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED, Associate degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2 years financial experience required. 
  • Must have experience selling and cross-selling financial products or services. 
  • Six (6) months outbound call center experience preferred. 
  • Must be able to meet and/or exceed sales goals. Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations. 
  • Excellent communication skills are required, both written and oral as well as well-developed presentation skills over the telephone.  
  • Ability to function in a financial institution branch environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: PC, 10 key calculator, fax, copier, telephone, etc.  Ability to lift a minimum of 15 lbs.

Position Expectations:
The chosen candidate will be responsible for providing input to the President/CEO on the Credit Union’s Strategic Business Plan to reflect Human Resource activities and trends.  They will develop, implement, and manage the Human Resource function for the Credit Union with primary emphasis in areas of policy development, wage and salary administration, employee payroll, performance appraisal programs, employee relations, employee benefits, recruitment and retention strategies, organizational development, record compliance, reports and statistics, counseling, orientation, and employee training and development programs.  They will ensure all human resource programs comply with State and Federal regulations, and Educational Systems FCU policies as approved by the Board of Directors or President/CEO.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources (HR) Department and supervising the Human Resources staff.  Develops continual improvements in efficiency and service quality.  Backs up the Human Resources staff as needed.
  • Develops and proposes HR policies and enhancements to the Employee Guidebook for the President/CEO.  Implements policy changes and develops departmental procedures.  Assures HR policies and procedures are up-to-date and are in compliance.
  • Develops and manages a proactive recruitment process to ensure the selection of quality applicants for vacancies, and that the Credit Union is adequately staffed with competent employees. 
  • Counsels management and employees in the interpretation and application of HR policies and procedures and implements effective employee relations.  Advises managers and supervisors on the appropriate corrective and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversees, creates and conducts training and staff development programs that meet the needs of the staff and management, and that meet the objectives of the Credit Union.  Oversees the annual “Staff Day” program.  Oversees development and administration of new employee orientation and exit interview program.
  • Reviews, recommends, and oversees administration of the Credit Unions benefits and compensation program.
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors the performance appraisal system for the Credit Union.
  • Maintains a professional, positive attitude at all times.  Serves as a role model for employees.  Maintains the strictest confidentiality in all human resources matters.
  • Conducts annual salary administration; conducts research such as salary and benefit surveys and completes government reports as required.  Submits recommendations to the President/CEO.
  • Reviews performance evaluations and salary recommendations for staff to ensure compliance with policies and applicable regulations.  Makes recommendations to executives as necessary. 
  • Oversees payroll processing and administration.  Ensures W-2’s are submitted to employees prior to the IRS deadline.  Insures that all HR and payroll records are well maintained and secure, with the most current employee information.
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors on employment regulations, salary and performance administration, benefits coverage, employee policies and procedures, grievances and disciplinary actions, etc. 
  • Assists managers in developing and updating job descriptions and standards of performance.
  • Assists in the development of the HR section of the Credit Union’s Strategic Business Plan.  Prepares and submits the HR budget to the President/CEO.
  • Carries out HR objectives according to the Credit Union’s Strategic Business Plan within budget.  Conducts human resources projects and researches new programs and systems as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting vendor due diligence and compliance with the Credit Union’s vendor due diligence program

Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.   Minimum five to seven years related experience is required.  Minimum three to five years HR supervisory experience in a financial institution or similar industry is required.  Familiarity with federal and state employment regulations is required.  Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and analytical skills.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to work with highly confidential information.  Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ADP HRIS is a must.  Some travel required.  Ability to lift 25 lbs.
