We believe in supporting academics
We're proud to support academics through partnerships, sponsorships and special events throughout the school year to help the education community achieve excellence.
Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) - Vocational Education
In a continued effort to help the Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) achieve its mission to educate students for careers in the automotive industry, we annually participate in three ATF Sales where high school students sell donated cars they refurbish. The Credit Union's participation helps students build service and sales skills while providing financing options for members wishing to purchase the ATF vehicles.
Business and finance student internships
Each year, the Credit Union partners with local school systems to help business and finance students fulfill their curriculum requirements. This includes completing an internship between their junior and senior year of high school. The Credit Union hires these students for seven weeks, giving them the opportunity to work in the Credit Union's Operations and Marketing departments.
Read Across America
The Credit Union participates in Read Across America on an annual basis. The program is sponsored by the National Education Association with the goal of building a nation of readers. During the month of March, our employees visit local elementary schools to read to students. In addition, we donate a gift basket to each classroom we visit that includes a set of Dr. Seuss's books, bookmarks and a $100 Visa®
Reading programs with local ballparks
Educational Systems FCU is proud to sponsor the Read and Hit a Home Run program with a Bowie Baysox and the Pinch onto Books programs with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Through partnerships between Educational Systems FCU and local ballparks, each year over 122,000 elementary school students from nearly 400 schools receive free admission to baseball games. They receive the tickets because they demonstrate their commitment to reading. The Credit Union also sponsors games throughout the summer to celebrate the Most Improved Student, Educator Appreciation, the Summer Reading Program and Academic Achievement.
Each year, we sponsor four Spelling Bees held in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles and Prince George's counties. Spelling Bees challenge middle school students to spell words correctly until the competition is narrowed down to one winner receiving a trophy and a spot on the Scripps National Spelling Bee held annually in Washington D.C. Each of our local winners receives a $500 Visa®
gift card. Additionally, a donation of $500 is given to the winner's school to support their Spelling Bee program.
S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
We proudly sponsor three local Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) events held in Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Prince George's counties each year. We're honored to recognize students for outstanding achievement in selected project categories.
Summer Adventures in Learning
We proudly support the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Retirees Association's Toolkits, Books and Backpacks Project. The project was created in 2003 to help economically disadvantaged students. Each year, the Credit Union donates over 1,000 rulers and 2,000 pencils and makes a $1,000 monetary contribution. The project supports the Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Adventures in Learning (ELO SAIL) program, which is a free four-week summer school program offered at 22 Title I elementary schools to help nearly 1,900 students. Since the project began, nearly 20,000 toolkits have been assembled and distributed.
