For us, it’s an honor to support education and those who educate others with a special Educational Systems Federal Credit Union award.

About the Maurice Erly Professional Development Award

Maurice Erly retired from the Prince George’s County Board of Education after 38 years of service with over 25 of those years spent as the Coordinating Supervisor of Staff Development. Maurice was passionate about education and professional development. He was always interested in learning about people and their expertise.

For over 44 years, Maurice served on the Educational Systems Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, with 25 of those years as Treasurer. Educational Systems FCU is proud to preserve Maurice’s legacy by awarding professional development awards to educators who have made a difference by positively impacting student success and who inspire them to further their own development.

The purpose of the award

Eleven, $1,000 Maurice Erly Professional Development Awards will be presented to educators to use towards continuing education fees, such as workshop registrations, certification fees and tuition.

Eligibility

To qualify for this award, the educator must be employed by one of the seven school systems or three community colleges we serve. In addition, one $1,000 award will be presented to an educator who is employed outside of the counties we serve.* Additionally, Credit Union membership is required prior to application submission. Educational Systems FCU employees, volunteers and their family members are not eligible to apply.

How to submit your application

To submit your application package, email the items listed below to supporteducation@esfcu.org by March 14, 2018. In the email subject line, include Maurice Erly Professional Development Award. An application package that is incomplete or not emailed or postmarked on or before March 14, 2018 will not be considered.

Application package must include:

  • Completed application (typed)

  • Essay

  • A letter of recommendation from an immediate supervisor or school administrator

Essay requirements

Answer the following essay questions. Essay must be typed, Times New Roman, 12 pt, double
spaced, with one inch margins. Essay must be between 250-500 words. Submit your essay in a PDF document without your name listed on the document.

Essay topic

If you were selected to receive the 2018 Maurice Erly Professional Development Award, how would you use it to further your development and provide continued student or institutional growth? Please include evidence of strategies or processes in which you have played a major role over the past year that resulted in student or institutional success.

The winning applicant's name and essay may be used by Educational Systems FCU for marketing purposes.

* An award will be given to one educator from each of the seven school systems we serve including: Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's, St. Mary's and Talbot and the three community colleges we serve including: College of Southern Maryland, Montgomery College and Prince George's Community College. Plus, one award will be designated for an educator employed by a school system outside of the seven counties previously mentioned. Exceptions for membership eligibility may apply for applicants from counties outside of the seven counties we serve.
