100 Days, 100 Ways to Save

5/28/2025

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is proud to announce Carroline Lansinger as the grand prize winner of its annual “100 Days, 100 Ways to Save” contest. In addition to winning an Amazon Fire® tablet, Lansinger selected Candlewood Elementary School to receive a $500 donation from the Credit Union to support financial education and classroom needs.

Held in celebration of the 100th day of school, the campaign reflects the Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to financial education by encouraging members of the education community to share practical, effective saving tips. The initiative is part of the Credit Union’s broader mission to provide members with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions to build a brighter future.

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union congratulates Lansinger and thanks all participants for contributing valuable tips that help inspire saving habits across the community.

Lansinger’s tip focused on teaching children about budgeting and investing at an early age. “I teach my 9-year-old son to divide any money he receives as gifts. Right now, we use simple math: 75 percent goes into savings, 20 percent into a jar for short-term goals like video games or toys, and 5 percent for something fun like candy or ice cream. We have talked about how those numbers will shift as he gets older. I also teach him about investing. We look at companies he is interested in and talk about what makes a stock worth buying. He has his own account where we track stocks and mutual funds. We talk about practicality such as how a Honda can get you where you need to go just like a luxury car, and how living within your means is what builds long-term financial security.”

“We hold this annual contest to celebrate the creativity and insights found within the education community,” said Girado Smith, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. “Carroline’s submission highlights how financial education can begin at home and evolve over time, illustrating the lasting impact of everyday lessons.”
